This past week marked senior night for LHS activities across the board. Senior night has long been a tradition at LHS and with good reason. Each activity is given a chance to recognize seniors for their leadership in the activity they are involved with, many of them reaching their fourth year of involvement in their organizations. Thankfully, LHS administration recognizes the importance of the events, while not allowing it to get too out of hand so that everyone may have the same recognition.
“[Senior night] is to recognize the time and effort that those seniors have put into our program,” Darin Gagnebin, activities director, said.
While our seniors have given to their organizations, their organizations have given back to them as well. Much like how students can leave an impact on their sport, their sport can leave an impact on them.
“[Football] has taught me that nothing is given to you. You must earn it,” Sean Dennis, senior football player, said.
These lessons learned have the ability to benefit students for the rest of their lives. For each student, it will be a bittersweet ending to depart from their respective organizations and the specialties to which they have grown so accustomed.
“I will miss Mr. Griffin’s motivational insults [the] most,” Dennis said.
While students will have plenty to miss, there is also plenty to look back on. During explanations of the things their activities have given them, the memories they have made along the way seem to show up time and time again.
“[My best memory is] going to New York and performing in front of thousands of people and having a great time with the girls,” Carina Harding, senior dancer, said.
While senior nights for each organization have come and gone, seniors will continue to fulfill their roles for the rest of their individual seasons providing leadership and dedication across the board.
