League wrestling showdowns highlight student athletes

Louisburg took 5th at the Frontier League wrestling tournament, beating both Eudora and Desoto. The tournament was held in the LHS gym on Feb. 14 and 15. The team competed against Baldwin, Spring Hill, Eudora, Paola, Ottawa and DeSoto. The boys have been working hard for this tournament.

“It’s just you out there, nobody else. So you have to rely on yourself,” David Bindi, freshman, said.

Parker Cates and Sean Dennis took 2nd place in their weight classes and 3rd place winners were David Bindi and Anders Vance. 4th place was awarded to Dylan Meyer, Ben Powers, Brenton Wrigley and Joey Goode.

“There is no feeling better than [winning a meet]” Parker Cates, sophomore, said.

The team works together in practices to strive for greatness.

“We have three of the top 10 teams at regionals,” Robert Bovaird, LHS wrestling coach, said.

The team is now working even harder for regionals which will be held in Burlington on Feb. 22.
